The project deals with the issue of Mar Mkhayel, the northern suburban area of Beirut that is constantly being challenged due to gentrification and new construction. The site, adjacent to the old train station is an experimental site, and aims at proposing a new typology marrying the old to the new.
The design acts as a connection between two entities offering a dialogue in both spatial quality and program.The project will reinterpret the typology of Mar Mkhayel offering public spaces in courtyards and passages. The program is defined by what Mar Mkhayel is, its identity, without changing its lifestyle. The program is shuffled to create a woven lifestyle between leisure, workshops and culture.
